About Us: Development Officer
Here at Merthyr Housing we are passionate about providing quality and well maintained homes exclusively for people living within the borough of Merthyr Tydfil. We are a community based Housing Association, providing exceptional services to all our tenants.
We are a small Housing Association, currently managing 1,257 units, with a turnover of £8m and a staff base of 49. However, we punch well above our weight, particularly with our ongoing development programme, which will continue to increase our stock levels over the next couple of years.
Job Role:
Would you like to be part of a vibrant and successful organisation? To feel part of a team that is making a real difference to the lives and communities of Merthyr Tydfil?
Following a review of our Finance team, we are looking for a qualified Management Accountant to join our team to support the Financial Controller and Director of Corporate Services. This is a brand new position and an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to build on and further develop their career with succession opportunities in the future.
The role will be responsible for the monthly preparation of the management accounts and the daily activities of the finance department. Reporting to the Financial Controller (FC), this role will have the scope and potential opportunity of job progression to the FC role by closely working together to potentially allow for development and ultimately succession. Supporting and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Finance Assistant (FA), the successful candidate will provide the technical accounting expertise to allow the FA to further develop too.
The candidate
The successful candidate will be an experienced Finance professional, who has demonstrable experience of leading a finance function and using their initiative and technical expertise to help ensure the Finance function delivers a first-class service.
You will have advanced Excel skills and attention to detail, strong organisational and time-management skills, ensuring all deadlines are met, as well as experience of leading a high performing team. You will also have excellent communication skills, and the ability to build positive working relationships with fellow employees across the Association as well as with other stakeholders.
Ideally you will be a qualified finance professional with social housing sector experience, however it’s more important that you have solid finance experience to draw on, which will allow you to hit the ground running, make a positive difference and develop your career further.
We recognise the value that diversity can bring to our organisation, and we undertake a review of our staff diversity to identify areas of underrepresentation. We therefore particularly wish to encourage and welcome applications from Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and diverse nationality candidates. At least two candidates from these backgrounds, who also meet the essential criteria will be guaranteed an interview at Stage 1. We identify candidates from these groups by requesting all candidates complete and submit an equality monitoring form with their application. If candidates decline to submit an equality monitoring form, their application will be assessed and shortlisted against the essential criteria alongside everyone else and they may/ may not be selected for interview.
